Cherokee County's recent 2008 American Cancer Society Relay For Life scored its biggest success to date, raising more than $46,700 to help fund the fight against cancer.

The event at Koser-Spring Lake Park in Cherokee featured 19 teams generating more than $35,300 in pledges and celebrated life with 79 area cancer survivors who participated in the memorable, poignant, annual event. More than 950 luminarias were lit to remember and honor loved ones directly affected by cancer.

With the lives touched, volunteers recruited, and money raised, there is no doubt Cherokee's ACS Relay For Life was extremely successful in making a difference in this community and helping the ACS in its life-saving mission.

A special thank-you goes out to the local relay For Life Committee and their families who once again organized a tremendous event. They are, Myla Stoneking, Tandra Naslund, Brenda Parker, Karla Prunty, Denny Taylor, Janina Johnson, Jody Schlichting, Laurie Gerstandt, Linda Sones, Veldene Lindell, Betty Resch, Donna Lee, Charlie Leissler.

In addition, many dedicated sponsors combined to push this year's event over the top. They are:

Gold Sponsors - Cherokee Regional Medical Center, Hy-Vee, Tyson Foods.

Bronze Sponsors - CML Telephone, North Star Community Credit Union, Farmers State Bank, Little Sioux Corn Processors, Schoon Construction, Haselhoff Construction, Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative, Pilot Rock, Heritage Bank, First Trust & Savings Bank, Sports Rehab & Professional Therapy, Central Bank, EGR Insurance, Sequins Bridal Boutique, Sleezer Fertility Center LLC, Deer Valley Mechanical, Wetherell Mfg.
