On Aug. 29, 2008 Janice McCord Jones, 83, passed away in San Carlos, Calif. A native of Iowa, Janice was born on May 3, 1925 at Cherokee. After completion of her college education in Minneapolis Minn., she was employed by Federal Government Agencies for thirty five years, first for the US Dept. of Labor in Washington, DC transferring later to the Railroad Retirement Boards in Chicago, Ill. and San Francisco and for the last twenty one years of her career for the US Postal Data Center in San Bruno and San Mateo Calif., where she was Supervisor of the Miscellaneous and Tort Claims Sections. She moved permanently to California in 1952 from Chicago and was a resident of San Mateo and San Carlos since 1956. Survivors include her son, William Jones of Sonoma Calif. and daughter, Jennifer Jones of Burlingame Calif., as well as many cousins who reside in the Midwest and many friends whom she loved dearly and became her extended family here in Calif. Janice was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, San Carlos. She was also a volunteer with the Sequoia Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the San Mateo County Commission on Disabilities, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Mateo County and for several years volunteered with Comprehensive Home Health and Hospice of Menlo Park. A Funeral Mass was held on Sept. 9 at St. Charles Church, 880 Tamarack Ave. in San Carlos, CA. Interment will be held at a later date at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, Calif. Memorial contributions are preferred to the American Lung Assoc. or your favorite charity.
