The funeral for Florence A. Hemmah, 85, was held on Sept. 6 at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minn. with the Rev. Glenn Nycklemoe officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 5 at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Florence died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth.
Florence Altha Kirkewold was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Bowman, N.D. She married Orney Hemmah on Oct. 9, 1947, in Bowman. The couple ranched in Bowman until moving to Rochester in 1958. Orney then farmed in the Rock Dell area.
Florence worked in sales at Daytons for 24 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with family.
A longtime member of Zumbro Lutheran Church, she was active in the ladies aid, Rachel's Circle, and other various committees.
She is survived by a son, Otto (Ann Marie) of Byron; and two daughters, Sylvia (Greg) Michalak of Rochester and Lois (Dennis) Alquist of Meriden. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, Julie (Terry) Perrotti of Mazeppa, Paul Hemmah of Byron, Brad Hemmah of Byron, Karen (Michael) Young of Mankato, Minn., Denise Alquist of Rochester, Derrick (Christy) Alquist of Meriden, and Amber and Michael Michalak, both of Rochester; and three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Hannah and Sarah Perrotti. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Burnell; and a brother.
