RUTHVEN - The gritty Aurelia Bulldogs scored a touchdown in the first quarter and another in the second, and made them hold up for a tense 13-0 victory over Ruthven-Ayrshire here on Sept. 5.
The Bulldogs' defense came to play this night, limiting the hosts to just five total yards rushing on 27 carries, and 10-25 passing for 64 net yards with one interception for a total of just 69 yards of offense for R-A.
Aurelia gained 93 yards rushing on 37 hauls, and was 4-16 passing for 74 yards and three interceptions, to total 167 yards on offense.
However, points would be hard to come by this night, as the Bulldogs scored the game's last TD with six minutes left in the second quarter on a 32-yard pass from Bruce to Anthony Fowler, the PAT failing.
Jacob Howey led the Aurelia rushers with 13 carries for 52 yards, while Alec Ohlson carried six times for 30 yards, and Bruce eight for 19 yards. Bruce was 3-13 passing for 67 yards and two picks and one TD, and Camrin Meyer was 1-3 passing for seven yards with one pick.
Ohlson and Bruce led Aurelia's defense with eight tackles each, followed by Jason Glienke seven, Fowler six, Steve white six, Pinkerton six, and Zach Nixon six. White also had two fumble recoveries and Ohlson had the interception.
