HOLSTEIN - Host Galva-Holstein dropped a 25-16, 25-9 decision to East Sac County in the championship match to claim second place at the Galva-Holstein Volleyball Tournament here on Saturday Sept. 6.
The G-H girls won four matches to make the finals, defeating Battle Creek-Ida Grove 21-17, 21-11; West Monona 21-14, 21-6; Ar-We-Va 21-11, 21-11; and Woodbury Central 25-21, 25-13 in the semifinals before meeting East Sac County for the championship.
The Pirates were 165-196 hitting on the day with 84 kills, and served 170-187 for 91 percent and 37 aces. The totaled 74 team digs, 77 assists, and 20 blocks.

Heather Joslin led G-H in kills with 30, and Brandi Wagoner tallied 14. Lanae Broesder led in assists with 76, Ashley Buell (23) and Heather Joslin (14) led in digs, Wagoner (7) and Heidi Rollefson (5) led in blocks, and Victoria Andresen had nine ace serves to pace the Pirates in that category.
"We played pretty consistently throughout the day," said G-H coach Scott Mitchell. "East Sac really took it to us in the finals. We couldn't get a ball down against them. I thought we looked a little fatigued, which means we need to improve the area of conditioning."
Heather Joslin and Wagoner were named to the All-Tournament team.
