CORRECTIONVILLE - River Valley split two competitive volleyball matches at a triangular here on Sept. 8, defeating Westwood 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 and losing 12-25, 18-25, 25-23, 18-25 to Kingsley-Pierson.
Kari Ludvigson led the Wolverine servers against Westwood with an 18-18 effort, while Åmber Bauer was 12-12, Kristen Richey 10-11 with two aces, and Steph Shever 7-8.
Kaylea Simons led RV in attacks with 23-28 and nine kills, while Tonya Johnson was 14-18 with two kills, and Ludvigson 12-14 with five kills. Johnson, Simons, and Bauer each tallied two solo blocks.
Charlee Brewer led RV in digs with 10, and Simonsen added five, and Ludvigson three.
"We played much better as a team tonight," said River Valley coach Marlene Baumann. "There was great improvement over our last outing."
Against K-P, Bauer and Shever each were 18-18 serving with one ace apiece to lead the hosts, while Ludvigson was 10-11, Simons 9-10, and Brewer 8-9. Shever led in sets with 10, and Kelsey Wright had three.
Simons led her team in attacks with 21-26 and nine kills, followed by Johnson 18-19 and seven kills, Ludvigson 17-22 and two kills, Bauer 11-16 and two kills, Richey 8-9 and three kills, and Andrea Nelson 7-8 and two kills. Bauer led in blocks with three solos.
Brewer paced the Wolverines in digs with nine, while Simons had four, and Ludvigson and Richey three each.
"When we began to attack, we won the game," said Baumann. "We need to take charge. I saw a lot of good things tonight. We just need to put them all together."
River Valley is 3-3 in matches this season.
