South O'Brien VB girls stay busy

The busy South O'Brien volleyball team beat Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn 25-22, 25-13, 25-13 in Marcus on Sept.11 and lost a triangular at Hartley on Sept. 9th, falling 21-7, 21-13 to Clay Central Everly, and 21-13, 23-21 to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.

Chelsie Rohrs led in kills in the win over MMC with 11, followed by Christine Haden and Katie Tesch with six each, and Karlee Kunkel four. Miranda Kelleher led in ace serves with five, and Rohrs had two.

Taylor Julian and Kari Wester paced the Wolverines in assists with nine each, and Amber Hain had four. Kelleher led in digs with 14, whuile Rohrs registered 11, and Wester 10. Rohrs, Tesch, and Rylee Smith each tallied one stuff block.

"We played much better tonight. We served tough. We hit aggressively. We were able to score a few points each time we served and that was improtant for us," said SOS coach Denise Erdmann.

In the triangular at HMS, Rohrs led in kills with 14, and Tesch, Haden, and Kunkel had three apiece. Wester had two ace serves, and Kelleher one.

Wester also led her team in assists with 15, and Julian tallied nine. Rohrs totaled 13 digs, while Haden had 10, Tesch and Wester eight each, and Kelleher seven.

"We played inconsistent tonight. Multiple service errors hurt us," noted Erdmann.

South O'Brien also dropped three matches in the Spencer Tournament on Sept. 6, falling 16-21, 21-12, 15-5 to Clay Central Everly, 21-9, 21-16 to Spencer, and 21-17, 21-15 to Okoboji.

Against CCE, Rohrs led in kills with five, and Haden had two.Rohrs was 11-13 serving, followed by Wester and Haden each 4-4. Julian led in assists with eight, and Haden and Kelleher each totaled seven digs, and Ebel had five.

Against Spencer, Tesch had three kills, and Rohrs and Kunkel two apiece. Wester led in serves with a 6-6 effort, followed by Haden 4-4, Rohrs 4-5, and Ebel 3-3. Julian led in assists with three, while Haden tallied six digs, and Rohrs and Tesch five apiece.

Against Okoboji, Rohrs tallied three kills, and Kunkel two. At service, Tesch was 5-5, Kelleher 5-6, and Rohrs and Julian each 4-5. Julian and Wester led in assists with four each, and haden led in digs with six, and Rohrs had four.
