Elmer H. Hohbach, 78, of Harbor City, Calif. died July 10, 2008 in Harbor City, Calif. following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Don Meyer officiated. Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Marcus.

Elmer was born on Nov. 23, 1929 in Cherokee, to John and Frieda (Klingbeil) Hohbach. He attended high school in Cherokee graduating in 1949. In 1955 he married Verna Grothe in LeMars. She preceded him in death in 1996.

In 1956 they moved to California where Elmer attended Northrup Aeronautics School. Elmer worked for Continental Airlines in California for 40 years until his retirement in 1998. He loved to build and fly remote controlled airplanes. Elmer enjoyed bowling, having lunch with friends and coworkers, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Verna, a sister Viola; a brother Lyle and an infant brother John, and his parents.

He is survived by a daughter, Patty Britt and her husband, Jerry, of Aurelia; two children, one in Harbor City, Calif. and one in Long Beach, Calif.; a granddaughter, Susie Britt; a grandson Jeremy Britt; great-granddaughters Brittany and Alyssa.
