ROCKWELL CITY - The Galva- Holstein Lady Pirates played in the Rockwell City-Lytton Volleyball Tournament on Saturday Sept. 12, and won their first match of the day, beating St. Edmond of Fort Dodge, 21-18, 21-8.
Things were not as kind after that for veteran coach Scott Mitchell's team, though, as they dropped a match to Alta 21-17, 22-20, 15-10, then fell to East Sac County, 21-12, 21-15.
The Lady Pirates served successfully 85.7% of the time on the day, with 10 ace serves, and also had 43 digs, 55 team assists and 61 kills.
Individually, Heather Joslin had 19 kills at the net and her sister Lindsey added 14. Lindsey also led in ace serves and digs (13). Ashley Buell added 11 digs for the Lady pirates. Lanae Broesder had 55 assists to lead the team's playmakers.
Coach Mitchell felt his team "were a step slow most of the day, and very inconsistent with our serving."
"Hopefully," the coach added, "We will pull it all together this week."
Galva-Holstein has a 7-3 season mark.
