'Big Buck' Contest for bow hunters

Local archery club and boosters sponsor event

The Full Draw Archery Club (FDAC) of Cherokee is announcing their Big Buck Contest for this fall, with all proceeds used to promote archery to the youth in the community, such as the 4-H archery program and free admission to all youth FDAC events.

The entry fee for the Big Buck Contest is $10 and must be paid before October 1, the opening day of bow season. The entered buck must be harvested in Iowa and taken with archery equipment.

The official scoring format will be the gross score of total inches of the antlers. The scoring will be conducted by an official Pope & Young scorer in early December at KC Taxidermy in Cleghorn.

The first-place winner will receive a full shoulder mount of the winning buck donated by Kevin Christensen of KC Taxidermy of Cleghorn. Second place will receive a ladder stand donated by Double F Construction, and third place is a 3-D deer target donated by the classic rock band, Shameless.

Also new this year, all Big Buck Contest entries wll be placed into a drawing for a new 2008 Bowtech Allegiance compound bow ($749 value) donated by Everlasting Memories and the FDAC.

Bow hunters may enter the contest at KC Taxidermy, Everlasting Memories, or from any FDAC member. For information, call 225-2913.
