Plains Area Mental Health Center and Siouxland Aging Services held a luncheon to show their appreciation for the volunteers in the Elderly Peer Program on Thursday Sept. 18 at the Cherokee Community Center.

Twenty-three volunteers were welcomed by Patrick Schmitz, on behalf of the Plains Area Board of Directors, to the 22nd annual luncheon. Schmitz gave several quotes regarding the pleasures derived from volunteering and personally thanked everyone for the many hours of volunteer service they have provided to the elderly in the community.

Tammy Nobles of Iowa Poison Control in Sioux City spoke to the group on the topic of "Identifying Poisoning in Your Clients," and, after lunch, one of the peers, Mary Roder of Remsen, presented the program entitled "Lift Your Head and Laugh -- It is Good for Your Health."

The program concluded with the awarding of door prizes.
