Peterson Heritage Tour September 28

PETERSON - Peterson Heritage, Inc. is preparing for the 2008 Heritage Tour to be held on Sunday September 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The highlight of this year's tour will be "Tracing Your Family History." Genealogy sessions, led by Janice Danielson of Storm Lake, will be held at the Legion Community Center. These sessions are intended for all who have been or wish to start working on their family's genealogy.

The three sessions offered are: "Tracing Your Family History for Beginners -- "Lets Dig Up Your Past" at 10 a.m.; "Scandinavian/German Roots- Crossing the Atlantic" at 1 p.m.; and "Investigating Family History Resources- Your Library to the Internet" at 3 p.m.

Danielson is the Family History Librarian for the Later Day Saints Church in Storm Lake and the librarian for the local Buena Vista County Genealogical Society. She also teaches genealogy classes for Community Education and is Regional Representative for District 14 of the Iowa Genealogical Society, covering this area of the state.

The private homes of Carol and Linda Fries, Missy Johanson, and Jim and Sue Hass will be open for this year's tour. Other events of the day include touring the homes of Christian and JA "Gust" Kirchner, the Farm Machinery Museum, the Rock Forest Country School, Jim's History Barn, The Doris French Memorial Doll Museum and the Peterson Fort Blockhouse. Antique cars will be displayed along the "Boulevard" on Park Street. Many other activities, including arts and crafts displays and various walking tours of historic places are also scheduled.

Tickets may be purchased at the Boarding House on Main Street. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children under age 5.
