Aurelia tumbles 51-24 at Ar-We-Va

WESTSIDE - Undefeated Ar-We-Va scored 26 points in the fourth quarter to bust open a tight game and claim a 51-24 district win over Aurelia in 8-player football action here on Sept. 19.

Ar-We-Va led 19-6 at halftime and 25-12 heading into the fourth period, before outscoring the Bulldogs 26-12 in the final frame.

Aurelia scored its second-quarter TD on a fumble recovery in the end zone by Zach Nixon. The 'Dogs tallied another TD in the third quarter on a 12-yard run by Jacob Howey.

In the decisive fourth frame, Aurelia scored on a 45-yard TD pass from Camrin Meyer to Anthony Fowler, and an exciting 66-yard TD scamper by Steve White. All four Aurelia PAT tries failed.

Aurelia rushed 35 times for 190 yards, with Howey leading the way with 76 yards on 19 carries. White rushed for 66 yards on tree hauls, and Meyer 29 yards on seven carries. Meyers completed six passes on 23 attempts for 111 yards and one TD, and threw six interceptions.

Ar-We-Va rushed 42 times for 281 yards, and was 8-13 passing for 92 yards.

The Bulldog defense was challenegd throughout by the potent ground game of Ar-We-Va, with White leading his team in tackles with 16, followed by Ňaron Bruce and Alec Ohlson 12 apiece, Nixon 10, Taylor Witzel eight, and Elliott Zadow seven.

Fowler led the 'Dogs in receiving with four catches for 90 yards and one TD.

Aurelia, now 2-2 this season and 1-1 in district action, continues district play at winless Granville Spalding on Friday Sept. 26.
