Eagles run well on stormy night

Friday, September 26, 2008

Coach Ric Collins of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn said his cross country teams "started Homecoming Week off with some great races," despite rainy and windy conditions, when they competed at Sanborn in the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Invitational on Monday September 22nd.

In the varsity boys' competition, the Eagles had three runners who earned medals. Sophomore Jay Welp finished second, with a time of 17:53; freshman Jacob Pearson was 8th, in 19:18, and junior Tyler Brady finished 12th, with a time of 19:43.

Two Lady Eagle 9th grade runners earned JV medals --Jeri Welp was 10th, in 20:47 and Christina Wilkens was 13th, in 21:48.

Also competing for Eagle boys Monday were Gregor Pritzlaff, who earned a 7th place JV medal with his time of 21:43; Tyrel Godberson, who was 32nd in the varsity race with a time of 21:51; and Alex Brackmann, Dustin Beck and David Peters.

Taylor Hanson, Taryn Godberson, Danica Hanson and Jill Addison also competed for the Lady Eagles.

Coach Collins felt his team "ran very well for a Monday meet." He said his runners would train for the remainder of this week in preparation for their next races, which will be on September 29 in Alta.
