O'Bryan paces Cherokee XC at Sheldon

SHELDON - Nate O'Bryan led the Cherokee Washington High boys to the finish line at the Sheldon Cross Country Invitational here on Sept. 23, clocking 16:38 and placing 23rd in the rugged competition.

Nick O'Bryan was 42nd in a time of 17:16, followed by Zach Mosbach 73rd in 18:57, and Kody Sump 84th in 19:51.

For the Cherokee girls, Chyenne Mortenson led the way, placing 82nd in 19:49, followed by Katy Hart 85th in 22:09, Whitney Axiotis 86th in 22:26, Abby Hayes 87th in 24:18, and Amanda Lewis 88th in 26:10.

Spirit Lake Park won the boys team title with 47 points, followed by MOC-Floyd Valley 79, Hull Western Christian 114, Orange City Unity Christian 122, Spencer 141, Le Mars 152, Sioux Center 192, Sheldon 214, Storm Lake 229, Galva-Holstein 241, Cherokee 305, and Estherville-LC/AR 364.

The Indians also won the girls team title with 46 points, followed by Unity Christian 62, G-H 115, ELC-AR 124, Sheldon 163, Le Mars 177, Spencer 196, HWC 248, MOC-FV 276, Storm Lake 280, Emmetsburg 282, Cherokee 428.

"Everyone was very happy with their low times, but I suspect the course may have been a little short," said Cherokee coach Deb Hankens.
