October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Thursday, October 2, 2008

The Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA) reminds everyone that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Their theme for the year is "Ending Domestic Violence-One Community…One Home…One Life at a Time."

During this month, CASSA will intensify their efforts to promote public awareness of domestic violence issues.

In 2007, CASSA provided services to 829 new clients-adults and children. There were 54 adults and 57 children who sought shelter for a total of 1,273. Also 472 crisis calls were answered at their crisis centers.

CAASA is proud to serve the Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickenson, Emmet, Ida, Palo Alto and Sac counties with individual and group counseling for adults and children, crisis intervention, shelter, information and referral and multicultural outreach.

CAASA is announcing a Candlelight Domestic Violence Vigil scheduled for Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 300 E. Bow Dr. This will be an opportunity to mourn those that have died, celebrate those who have survived and connect those who have worked to end domestic violence.

Contact CAASA's 24-hour toll free crisis line at 1-877-362-4612 for more information on how you can help. CAASA is an organization of domestic and sexual violence centers that provides its citizens with a source of information and support for victims of domestic and sexual violence. Please help CAASA to remind everyone to do his or her part by "Ending Domestic Violence-One Community…One Home…One Life at a Time."
