MARCUS - Jacob Lehnhoff scored on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter, and Jordan Boekhout added the crucial PAT kick to lead Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn to a sweet 7-6 Homecoming victory over Woodbury Central in Class A District 1 football action here Friday night.
The Eagles of first-year head coach Brad Cave rushed the ball 42 times for 133 yards, with Lukas Nelson leading the way with 23 carries for 102 yards, Lehnhoff 10 hauls for 24 yards, and Russ Godbersen six carries for 16 yards.
Nelson was 6-11 passing for 40 yards, and Boekhout 3-5 for 30 yards in the air. Kerad Letsche led the MMC receivers with five catches for 41 yards, and Boekhout caught two for 27 yards.
The Eagles notched a dozen first downs to nine for the Wildcats, and lost three fumbles, while Woodbury Central lost one.
Defensively, Jordan Peterson paced MMC with 14 tackles, while Alex Roseen totaled 12, Kyle Wester 10, Blaine Dammann seven, Derek Schlinz six, and Lehnhoff five.
Letsche punted eight times for the Eagles, averaging 33 yards per kick, the longest a 52-yard boomer. Letsche also returned three punts for 28 yards.
MMC travels to Le Mars Gehlen on Oct. 3 for another tough District match-up.
