ALTA - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Cross Country teams ran at the Alta Invitational meet on Monday Sept. 29, and Eagle coach Ric Collins said that for the second time in a row, a "day of rest" on Sunday seemed to help Eagle runners at a Monday meet, with their times going down.
Sophomore Jay Welp won a second place varsity medal with a season best time of 16:46. Collins said it was a "great race with three guys battling to the end." Freshman Jacob Pearson continued to show progress, placing 15th in the varsity meet with a time of 18:22.
Tyler Brady was 26th (19:18), Gregor Pitzlaff 40th (20:09) and Tyrel Godberson was 50th (21:48) as the Eagle boys posted a team score of 133 to place third among eight teams. Also competing for the varsity boys - and all showing improvement - were Dustin Beck (25:22), Greg Hueser (28:17) and David Peters (29:39).
The Lady Eagles all had good races and "gave their best efforts" over the 2.4 mile course, said Collins. Freshmen Christina Wilkins and Jeri Welp both earned Junior Varsity medals, with Wilkins' time of 20:18 earning her an 8th place medal and Welp's 20:31 good for 13th. Senior Taryn Godberson (22:19) and freshman Jill Addison (27:04) also ran for the Lady Eagles.
The Eagles' next meet will be Tuesday October 7th at the Kingsley-Pierson Invitational in Kingsley.
