SIOUX CITY - Author and publishing industry consultant Peter Davidson will present a seminar, How to Self-Publish Your Book, at Western Iowa Tech Community College, Sioux City, Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The seminar will present everything a person needs to know in order to write, self-publish, and market his or her own book.
The seminar is for anyone interested in writing and self-publishing a children's book, nonfiction book, novel, autobiography, family history, collection of poems, religious work, personal experience, collection of short stories, or other type of book. It identifies potential advantages and pitfalls involved in self-publishing one's own work. The information presented is designed to help participants avoid publishing scams and save money.
Topics include Understanding Self-Publishing, Setting Financial Goals, Identifying Your Reader Audience, Writing The Book, Evaluating Printing and Binding Options, Obtaining an ISBN number, Library of Congress Control Number, and Bar Code, Working With A Graphic Designer, Copyrighting Your Book, Calculating Costs, Marketing Your Book, and Avoiding Book Publishing Scams.
Davidson has been in the publishing industry for more than 30 years. He has written 23 books that have been published by McGraw-Hill Book Company, Perigee/Putnam Publishing, Haworth Press, and others. He is president of Sweet Memories Publishing, which published his novel, Okoboji. He has presented more than 500 writers' seminars and has appeared on more than 85 radio and television programs nationwide.
