Supervisors approve underground tech lines

Thursday, October 9, 2008

The Cherokee County Supervisors met for their regular meeting on Tuesday Sept.30th on the lower level of the Cherokee Courthouse.

The Board approved the agenda and minutes of the previous meeting.

Dave Shanahan, County Engineer, presented two underground utility permits. The Board approved the underground permits to Qwest for high tech electric utility lines under a 520 St. in Section 24 of Cherokee Township and under 580th St. in Section 24 of Pilot Township.

Shanahan and the Board reviewed a 27-year construction plan to be submitted to SIMPCO. The plan is an estimate of upcoming projects to determine financing need at the local, state and federal levels.

Shanahan expressed concerns about zoning regulations and the lack of local enforcement of building permits and setbacks.

According to County Auditor Kris Glienke, zoning laws are governed by the State of Iowa and laws within the county have very limited authority.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
