MAPLETON - The Galva-Holstein Lady Pirates made it to the finals of the first --ever Western Valley Conference volleyball tournament here on Sept.29, but were they were unable to top IKM/Manning, and lost the championship match to the South Division team by game scores of 25-17, 25-18.

G-H coach Scott Mitchell commented after the match: "Most nights our effort would have given us a win, but IKM/Manning has so many ways to score points that you can't afford to make any mistakes. We played well and had some opportunities, but IKM/Manning seemed to always make a big play."

In the tournament semi-finals, the Lady Pirates beat Logan-Magnolia 25-16, 19-25, 15-8. Heather and Lindsey Joslin led the team with 14 and 13 kills apiece, Broesder had 31 assists, and Buell and Lindsey Joslin had 17 and 12 digs, respectively.

Coach Mitchell said, "We struggled in game two with our passing, which was the difference in that game. We did a good job of slowing down their hitters at the net, even though we didn't have a lot of blocks."

The 15th-ranked Lady Pirates' tournament efforts put their season mark at 16-7. They have a 4-1 record in the conference.
