LE MARS - Host Le Mars Gehlen scored the clinching touchdown in the fourth quarter to pocket a hard-earned 20-6 Class A District football win over gritty Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn here on Oct. 3.

Celebrating Homecoming 2008, the host Jays scored TDs in the first, second and fourth quarters for their winning point total.

MMC tallied its lone score in the second period on a five-yard TD scamper by Lukas Nelson, the PAT failing.

Gehlen's Jordan Sitzmann scored two TDs on runs of 10 and one yard, and Chris Gabriel caught a three-yard TD pass from quarterback Taylor Wurth to account for the Jays' points.

The Eagles rushed 40 times for 163 yards and one TD, with Nelson leading the way with 21 carries for 130 yards, followed by Jacob Lehnhoff nine carries for 23 yards, Jordan Boekhout five carries for 11 yards, and Russ Godbersen four carries for a negative one yard.

MMC completed 5-13 passes for 35 yards and two interceptions. Jordan Boekhout was 3-9 passing for 28 yards and one pick, and Nelson was 2-4 for seven yards and one pick.

Gehlen was 11-17 passing for 112 yards and one TD. The Jays rushed 37 tmes for 195 yards and two TDs, with Sitzmann leading the way with 19 carries for 102 yards and two TDs.

Blaine Dammann paced the Eagles on defense with 14 tackles, followed by Godbersen with 11, Alex Roseen eight, Jordan Petersen seven, and Lehnhoff, Nelson, Dan Holmes, Jerad Letsche, Kyle Wester, and Derek Schlinz, each with four.
