Indians sweep Cherokee XC meet

The Spirit Lake Park cross country teams swept both the boys and girls divisions of the Oct. 7th Cherokee Cross Country Invitational, run at the Mental Health Institute Course.

The Spirit Lake Park girls won the team title with 33 points, followed by Irange City Unity Christian 53, Le Mars 119, Sheldon 138, MOC-Floyd Valley 143, Hull Western Christian 197, Storm Lake 206, Sioux City North 224, Okoboji 240, Cherokee 311.

The Indians also won the boys title with 57 points, followed by MOC-FV 99, HWC 106, Unity Christian 167, Le Mars 167, Sioux center 179, Sergeant Bluff-Luton 190, Sheldon 203, Storm Lake 222, and SC North 263.

Nate O'Bryan paced the Cherokee boys, placing 27th in 17:57 over the rugged terrain of the MHI course. Nick O'Bryan was 44th in 18:51, Zach Mosbach 52nd in 19:22, Calvin Conley 68th in 20:48, and Cole Renken 70th in 20:54.

Chyenne Mortenson paced the Cherokee girls, finishing 49th in 19:15, followed by Katy Hart 64th in 22:16, Whitney Axiotis 65th in 23:31, Abby Hayes 66th in 23:34, and Amanda Lewis 67th in 26:10.

In boys JV action, John Bieber was 90th in 22:22, and Dan Rodgers 104th in 23:40. In middle school boys action, Jaden Lux was seventh in 13:39, and Conner Ogren 21st in 15:22.

"It was perfect weather for a cross country meet," said Cherokee cross country coach Deb Hankens. "A lot of people in our community were involved in putting on this event. I want to thank everyone who helped make this meet run so smoothly. I also want to thank everyone who came out to cheer on our teams. It all was greatly appreciated."
