Choir members and Bell Choir members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee earned close to $2000 with a rummage and bake sale held on Sept. 20.

The proceeds were for St. Paul's Church and School in Waverly, Iowa. The church buildings were badly damaged in June 2008, when a nearby river flooded, and the congregation has set a goal to rebuild.

Bethlehem Church members rallied to the cause and brought two rooms of merchandise for the sale. Members also conducted a bake sale to raise their total contribution.

The Bethlehem Choir decided to spearhead the fundraiser for the church after they learned that one of their members, Dave Zelle, was raised in St. Paul's congregation.

Thrivent Lutheran Financial Services added $500 to the total of $1455.56 raised by the rummage and bake sale.
