PAULLINA - South O'Brien won a hard-fought first game, fell in the second, then rebounded to take games three and four to win a War Eagle Conference volleyball match with Spalding Catholic here on Oct. 7th, 3-1.
Game scores were 25-23,18-25,25-10,25-18.
Karlee Kunkel had eight kills and Katie Tesch and Christine Haden five apiece to lead the Wolverines' attack. Tesch also had nine ace serves and Kari Wester two. Wester also led the team in digs with 17, followed closely by teammates Haden and Tesch with 16 apiece and Chelsie Rohrs with 15. Taylor Julian had eight assists for SOS and Kari Wester five. Karlee Kunkel had six blocks and Chelsie Rohrs two.
Wolverine coach Denise Erdmann said, "Karlee Kunkel played an excellent match tonight, leading the team in kills and blocks."
Coach Erdmann felt the team served tough in games one and three, and "were more aggressive in offense and made hustle plays throughout the match."
She felt the team "got into a bit of trouble in serve receive" in game two, but were able to "step up" that part of their game in games three and four.
The Wolverines are now 7-16 on the year and 2-4 in the War Eagle Conference.
