WOODBINE - The Aurelia Bulldogs were down 21 points at halftime in District 8-player football action here Friday night, and it was too big of a deficit to overcome, as they dropped a 56-28 decision to the Tigers.
There were plenty of offensive fireworks by both squads, headlined by Woodbine running back Jon Gale, who gained 196 yards on 18 carries and scored five touchdowns. Woodbine had 345 yards in total offense and the Bulldogs 333, with 20 first downs.
The Bulldog ground game was led by Jacob Howey, who gained 106 yards on 26 carries and scored once, and senior QB Camrin Meyer completed 18 of 30 pass attempts for 184 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted once.
Aaron Bruce caught seven passes for 58 yards and one touchdown and Anthony Fowler also caught seven, good for 100 yards and two TDs. Aurelia's defense was led by Taylor Witzel with 13 tackles, while Alec Ohlson had 12 stops, Zach Nixon 11 and Elliott Zadow nine. Howey and Fowler added seven apiece.
Aurelia is now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the district and things don't get any easier for the 'Dogs. They host Remsen-Union and Remsen St. Mary's to close their regular season.
