Dorothy R. Wiebersch, 88, of Marcus, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 07, 2008 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. A Memorial Mass was held on Oct. 11 at Holy Name Church in Marcus. Father Eugene Murray officiated. Inurnment followed at the Holy Name Cemetery. The Earnest -- Johnson Funeral Home of Marcus was in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Rebecca Appeldorn was born in Gaza, on July 9, 1920. She graduated from Primghar High School in 1938, and married Francis (Pat) Wiebersch on Sept. 16, 1939. The couple owned Pat's Food Market in Paullina, where they lived with their two children. On March 27, 1953, Dorothy and Pat purchased a building in Marcus, where The Old Panhead is currently located. They renovated the upstairs apartment so that they could move there with their children in 1959.
In 1968, Dorothy and her husband purchased Pat's Variety Store and ran it successfully until they sold the store and the building when they retired to Mesa, Ariz., in 1976. Dorothy moved to Chanhassen, Minn. after Pat's death in 1999.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rudy and Sophie Appeldorn and her husband Pat.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Paul (Cyndi) Wiebersch of Marcus and Lois (David) Toohey of Chanhassen, Minn., her sister Kay Nugent of Greenbrae, Calif., five grandchildren, seven grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
