Bulldogs play best match of season against tough SC team

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

SCHALLER -- Playing against a very tough Schaller-Crestland team in the last match of the regular season here on Oct. 16, the Aurelia Bulldog volleyball squad played what their coach said was "the best I've ever seen them play."

Coach Ann Dornack said that "every player on the floor played as hard as they could, and I am proud of how far they have come." Leading the rapidly improving Aurelia squad in kills Thursday were Ashley Anderson with 4 and Audrey Winterhof and Shelby Dierenfield with 2 apiece. Erin Laursen led the team with 15 digs, followed by Cassie Sleezer and Audrey Winterhof with 14 apiece. Emily Rohlk, with 12, and Kayla Bruns, with 5, led the team in assists.

Game scores were 11-25, 11-25, 7-25 in favor of the Wildcats, but Coach Dornack felt that the entire Aurelia team, both varsity and junior varsity, ended the regular season on a high note, playing a great final match.

In a quirk of the draw, the Bulldogs and Wildcats meet once again in the Regional Tournament here on Wednesday Oct. 22.
