'Harvest Hoopla' coming to Aurelia

AURELIA - The town of Aurelia will be holding its annual fall celebration, the "Harvest Hoopla," on Saturday, October 25th.

Events kick off with a "Hunter and Harvest Breakfast" at 6 a.m. at the new Aurelia Community Center. Sponsored by the Aurelia Kiwanis, Commercial Club and the D.A.R.E. program of the Aurelia schools, the breakfast will celebrate Harvest Hoopla and also the opening of the pheasant hunting season.The public is invited and free-will donations are accepted. All proceeds will go to support the D.A.R.E. program. The breakfast is scheduled to run until noon.

The Aurelia Library, located across the street from the Community Center, will be having a book/video/magazine sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and for the kids, there will be a "Little Spooks House of Fun" set up at the Community Center from 3 - 4:30 p.m., sponsored by the Friends of Aurelia group. This activity is suggested for 5th grade and under, and costumes are optional. At 5 p.m., there will be a costume parade for kids, starrting at the City Park and ending downtown by C.A.R.S. All kids paticipating will receive a "goody bag."

A yard decorating contest is in progress in Aurelia, and the $50 "Best of Show" prize winner will be announced at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Haunted Bates' Motel, at the corner of Main and Second. The Bates itself will be open for a haunting good time from 7 - 10 p.m. For visitors 21 or older, a 50 cent off coupon for drinks at Sandy's or Jake's

Prize winners of thePumpkin Recipe contest, awarding $10 prizes for the most unusual recipe, the best appetizer, best main dish and best dessert, will also be announced at the 5:30 p.m. Bates event. Entry forms are available at both Aurelia banks, the Community Center and City Hall, and entries and recipes must be turned in to the Community Center by 3:30 p.m. on the 25th.

The evening of fun will conclude with a karaoke and costume contest at Sandy's bar and grill on Main Street, where music will be provided by Ken G. and the Turbines from 9 - 1 a.m., and prizes will be awarded for best costumes. $1 draws will also be available.

The following Friday, on Hallowe'en night, Jake's will be hosting a D.J. and Costume Contest from 9:30 - 1:30, with $10 "bottomless" cups of beer and other drink specials. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.
