CRMC receives award

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Cherokee Regional Medical Center continues to develop, and has made great improvements to its employee safety program.

At the Fall Workers' Compensation Program, ServiShare (a wholly owned shared service corporation of the Iowa Hospital Association) presented awards to recognize hospitals across Iowa with outstanding performance in the ServiShare/LaMair Mulock Condon Co./Farm Bureau workers' compensation program. ServiShare staff helps IHA members find cost-effective, appropriate solutions to their operational challenges.

Cherokee Regional Medical Center was presented with the Employee Safety Program Award for having exceptional safety and claim management programs in place. Some of the many things that CRMC has done to earn this award include: developing a health and wellness program for employees, doing a baseline physical capacity profile on each employee, purchasing ergonomic office chairs, performing many drills throughout the year including fire, disaster, infant abduction and workplace violence, publishing a hospital wide safety calendar, purchased an online MSDS (Materials Safety Data System) program as well as many other activities.

Much of the credit for the success of the Employee Safety Program at CRMC goes to the employees. Employees are reporting all injuries (even the minor ones) early and have supported using new equipment including the EZ Lift, EZ Stand and EZ Matt in patient care areas to ensure the safety of patients as well as employees and also participating in hospital wide safety training.
