SPENCER - Nate O'Bryan placed 10th to lead the Cherokee Braves in the October 16th Spencer Cross Country Meet, clocking an 18:26 time in the process.

Other Cherokee boys scores were Nick O'Bryan 16th in 19:23, Zach Mosbach 18th in 19:59, Kody Sump 22nd in 20:36, and Calvin Conley 26th in 20:59.

The Cherokee girls did not compete at the varsity level and ran in the junior varsity race. They were paced by Chyenne Mortenson seventh in 18:35, followed by Katy Hart 29th in 22:58, Amanda Kohn 24th in 21:57, Whitney Axiotis 28th in 22:57, and Abby Hayes 30th in 23:34.

In boys JV, Cole Renken was 22nd in 21:42, and John Bieber 27th in 23:19.

Spirit Lake Park won the boys varsity race with 21 points, while Spencer was second with 38, followed by Cherokee 92, Algona Garrigan 112, and Estherville-LC/AR 121.

"The times of the runners indicate a long course, but the Cherokee teams showed a strong effort by all the runners," said veteran Cherokee coach Deb Hankens. "The highlight of the evening was a performance by Chyenne Mortenson whose 7th-place finish (JV) was also her fastest time of the year so far."

Cherokee's cross country squads run at Spirit Lake in the Districts on Oct. 23rd.
