WITCC hosts Community Education Classes

Western Iowa Tech Community College and Conference Center in Cherokee is again hosting a series of non-credit Community Education classes in October and November.

The popular, informative classes this season include expert instruction and tips on useful and entertaining subjects such as holiday decorating, digital photography, computer basics, personalized gift-making, wine tasting, Christmas cookie decorating, story telling, and beading your own jewelry.

Ladies' Night out--Home for the Holidays

The season is changing and now is the time to start thinking about holiday plans! Ladies, gather up your friends and join us for a fun-filled evening. Missy and Katie will guide you through new decorating ideas for the holidays. They will demonstrate how to decorate your Christmas trees, how to create beautiful arrangements of live and silk florals and how to make gift-giving easier. You will also have an opportunity to sample new gourmet foods for holiday entertaining, enjoy a light meal, and possibly win a door prize. Sign up now to reserve your spot!

One session: Tuesday, October 28; 6:30-9 p.m.

Digital Photography

Doug Pierson, Master Photographer of Pierson Photography will be the instructor of this class for the beginning digital photographer. The first session will be explaining settings and set-up of each student's own camera and instruction on how to take digital photos. The second session will be spent looking at the pictures taken and giving constructive criticism of the photos and suggestions on how to improve quality. Class is limited to 15.

Computer 101

Learn the basics about the computer. This class is for the beginner whose knowledge is limited. This class will help answer questions and ease "fear" of the computer unknown. Basic knowledge of the Internet will also be covered. Come with plenty of questions and leave with lots of answers!

Two sessions: Wednesdays, November 5 and 19; 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Gifts From The Hands And The Heart

Join Instructor Carrie Lux and discover the joy of creating your very own personalized gifts for those special people on your list. Carrie will share ideas on how to create and customize gifts for all occasions. She will provide you with an instructional booklet filled with ideas and also inspire you with a variety of samples. Everyone in the class will put together an edible gift to take home. Whether you need a family gift, hostess gift or kid-friendly gift, Carrie will have ideas for you!

One session: Thursday, November 6; 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Fall Wine Tasting

Back by popular request is the Fall Wine Tasting class with Glazer Distributing and Johnson Brothers Distributing from Hy-Vee. Sign up for this class and you will have the opportunity to sample new fall wines and traditional favorites. All levels of wine connoisseurs are welcome! Students will get to choose a bottle of wine to take home following the class. Also included will be a light pasta meal and discussion on which wines best compliment this food choice. Those attending the class must be 21 years old. Please bring a valid driver's license or other proper identification.

One session: Monday, November 17; 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Christmas Cookie Fun

Lori Reusch from Hy-Vee will share Christmas Cookie decorating ideas for class members. She will have three different holiday designs using techniques including flowers, trees and other holiday motifs. Attend the class and get a jump start on how to make your Christmas cookies the ones everyone clamors for at your next family gathering. Sign up early to reserve your spot. Class is limited to 15.

One session: Tuesday, November 18; 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Do You Have A Story To Tell?

If you have ever thought about putting one of your stories down on paper, now is your chance to get started. Author Jean Tennant offers a hands-on experience and will share her knowledge of the publication process to help assist all aspiring authors. If you are interested in writing fiction, non-fiction, magazine articles, short stories, children's picture books or screenplays this is the class for you. Jean will discuss selecting your idea, improving your writing skills, getting started, copyrighting your materials, locating the right publisher and much more! Sign up for class, bring in your writing ideas and let Jean help you tell your story.

Beading Adventures

Matching bracelet and earrings will be the adventure of the evening. Coordinate silver and color as you design your own personalized set. Match an outfit or try something new--the choice is yours. Instructor Dori Claycamp will review basic beading techniques such as bead choice and tool usage. She will also display many inspirational samples. Come out for a fun-filled evening and leave with your jewelry set. Class is limited to 15, so don't wait.
