Rose Mongan, 68, of Cherokee, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 in the Country Side Estates following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 31, 2008 at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega officiated. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee.

Rose was born on April 18, 1940 in Marcus, to Aage and Marcella (Apel) Miller. She attended high school in Marcus, graduating in 1959. On June 2, 1962 she married John Mongan in Marcus. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1991. Rose worked for many years at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute in the kitchen and also in the laundry department. She later owned and operated Mongan Cherokee Decorating with her husband, John.

Rose umpired baseball and softball games, she liked to play recreation league volleyball, and liked to bowl. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband John and their Brittany Spaniels.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Aage Miller Jr.

She is survived by a brother, Milo Miller of Marcus; two sisters, Darlene Bennett of Waterbury, Neb.; Ruth Edwards and her husband, Butch, of Primghar; 10 nieces and nephews.
