Jay Welp
FORT DODGE - Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn sophomore Jay Welp placed in the top 20 of the 132 runners at Saturday's Class 1A Boys State Cross Country Meet, finishing 17th after clocking a 16:51 time.

According to veteran MMC cross country coach Ric Collins, Welp's plan for his first state meet appearance was to get out fast and stay close to the lead pack, and kick at the end, all of which he accomplished. Welp's finish was the best for area runners.
