Funeral services for Alice Ekstrom, 97, of Sutherland, formerly of Aurelia, were held on November 5 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, Rev. Leroy Riemer officiated. Burial was in the Cherokee Memory Gardens Cemetery. Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. Was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Alice Anna Augusta Iversen was born June 7, 1911, in Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of George and Minnie (Rademaker) Iversen. She attended school in Kearney, Neb., graduating in 1930, and on September 18, 1937, married Arvid Gustav "Gust" Ekstrom in Sioux Falls, S.D. Alice was a homemaker, and also worked as a cook at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia before retiring in 1972. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, and enjoyed crocheting afghans for family and friends.
Alice died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland.
Preceding Alice in death were her parents; her husband Gust on Oct. 14, 1966; one son, LaVern Ekstrom, and one sister, Louise Bomberger.
Alice is survived by two sons and their wives, Richard and Colette Ekstrom of Clarkston, Wash., and Marvin and Ada Ekstrom of Darien, Ga.. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, David Ekstrom, Barbara Lopez, Michael Ekstrom, Robert Ekstrom, Gary Ekstrom, Arvid Ekstrom, Darrell Ekstrom, Deb Helms, Tanya Gaer, and Daniel Ekstrom, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
