A remembrance for Don will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at the VFW in Cherokee. Family will be present and friends are welcome to come. Cards and condolences can be sent in care of Darrell Short, 924 W. Bluff in Cherokee, Iowa 51012.
Don was born on April 1, 1957 to Don and Delores Short in San Diego, Calif. Don served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. Don lived in Cherokee for many years, working various jobs and raising a family.
In 2001 he moved to New Vineyard, Maine and on October 10, 2004 married his beloved wife, Dina Goodwin. He was employed at the University of Maine-Farmington as an administrative assistant. Don treasured the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.
He enjoyed playing home games with family and friends. Don always had a gift of gab. There wasn't anyone he wouldn't talk to, or have a kind word for. He will be dearly missed.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Short Sr.
Don is survived by his wife Dina Short, New Vineyard, Maine; three children, Donald Short III of Sioux City, Dylan Short of Wymore, Neb.,and Mallory Short of Cherokee; his mother, Delores Short of Cherokee; two stepchildren, Heather Hellgren of West Farmington, Maine and Jana Kiernan of Temple, Maine; three sisters, Diana Jackson of Tacoma, Washington, Denise Freeman (Jay) of Cabot, Ark. and Delia Short of Beebe, Ark; one brother, Darrell Short of Cherokee; two granddaughters, Riley Short of Wymore, Neb. and Brooklynn Emery of Cherokee, and several aunts, uncles and nephews.
