AURELIA - Micah Barnes, a student at the Aurelia Community School, has been selected as a winner in Hy-Vee's annual "Smiles for Education" promotion.
Micah, the daughter of Marty and Kendall Barnes and the granddaughter of Bob and Donita Barnes, is the third student from a Cherokee County school to be selected for this honor in the last two years.
Mason Goebel from Roosevelt Elementary and Patrick Johnson from the Cherokee Middle School were winners in 2007.
Early Christmas present-

Winning students receive a Macbook laptop computer and their school receives a check for $5000, and Micah was presented with her computer on November 3rd in the Aurelia Gym in front of the entire Aurelia elementary and Middle School student body. Aurelia K-12 Principal Ann Sandine also accepted the $5000 check on behalf of the school.
Tim Haupert, Manager of the Cherokee Hy-Vee Food Store and Jason Van Vactor, manager of Hy-Vee Drug Store, made the presentations.
