James A. Berg, 59, passed away on Nov. 10, 2008 in Tacoma Wash. Berg was born on June 22, 1949 in Charter Oak, Iowa, and his early years were spent with family on the farm in Charter Oak and Mapleton.
His family moved to Cherokee in 1959. James' military career in the U.S Army began in 1969, and he retired on May 23, 1989 , at which time he began his real estate career. James' spontaneous sense of humor and genuine personality endeared him to everyone. Despite his last years of being medically challenged, he never lost his upbeat attitude and sense of humor.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Helen Berg Hall and his sister, Elaine Rupp of Cherokee.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Pokhui, his daughters Sandra of Tacoma, Washington and April Zortman (David) of Hot Springs, S.D.;three brothers, Bill (Sylvia) of Gig Harbor Wash., Jerry of Egan S.D. and Ron (Mary) of Cherokee; two sisters, Marilyn Stiles of Cherokee and Joan Reed (Ben) of Spirit Lake; and a host of friends and relatives.
