The ninth annual Friends of the Library Holiday Book Basket project is now under way in Cherokee.

Friends of the Library is an organization committed to helping the library purchase items which are not in their yearly budget, and the Book Basket Project is their major fund raising project.

Individuals and organizations have assembled book baskets, each of which has a theme. Each basket contains a book as well as a variety of theme-based items. These fun baskets provide a variety of different options for holiday gift giving.

The public is invited to visit the library and browse the selections in the baskets. Then, if you wish, you can submit a "silent auction" bid for a basket on a notepad located next to each basket. The bidding will close at noon on Saturday December 6. At that time, the final person listed on each bid sheet will be awarded that basket.

As of Friday morning, there were 45 different baskets at the library. Some baskets will appeal to young people, some to adults, some to women, some to men and still others may appeal to a broad spectrum of people.

Profits from this year's auction will be used to purchase more DVDs and books on CD for the library.
