This year's "Wonderful World of Christmas Parade" in Cherokee will be held on Thursday Dec. 4. This marks the 10th year of the popular event in downtown Cherokee. Last year there were 33 entries and hundreds of spectators, and parade organizers hope this year's parade will be the best yet.

Sponsored by the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Promotions Team, the parade will get under way at 6 p.m., starting down West Main Street from the County Courthouse. Slowly the caravan of lighted floats and merry minstrels will proceed along the parade route.

There were two categories for the Christmas parade - Business and Non-profit. Last year the winning entry for the Business Category was R.J. Thomas Manufacturing Company's "Don't Be A Grinch, Have A Merry Christmas" float. Second place went to Northwest Realty for the float "Frosty the Snowman Playing For the Holiday Season." Third place went to Gustafson Realty's float "Rub a dub dub…3 elves in a tub."

First place in the Non-profit Category was the Cherokee 4-H County Council's float "All Aboard." Second place went to Bethlehem Lutheran Church for the 1/8 scale model of the church. Third place went to Memorial Presbyterian Church for the live nativity scene.

Besides the wonderful floats, the highlight of the last year's parade was Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus with all the winning kids from the Promotions Team's coloring contest.

Guidelines for this year's parade are: floats must have a Christmas Theme. The overall theme is "Wonderful World of Christmas." The Chamber encourages the use of lighting and music; each participant must have a sign or banner to identify their entry.

Please no Santa on your float, Santa will be at the beginning of the parade and there should be no confusion for the children.

Judging will be during the parade. Awards will be given based on the best use of lights and overall creativity.

Entries will be judged based on two categories: Non-profit or Business.
