HULL - A talented and much taller Hull Western Christian girls basketball squad smacked a youthful Cherokee team 79-31 in season-opening Lakes Conference basketball here on November 25.
Misty Bruhn paced the Washington High girls with 11 points, including three three-pointers in this tough road game starting the season. Other scorers for Cherokee were Shelby Dilla with five points, and Liz Dawson, Julie Miller, and Taylor woods four apiece.
Kelsie Peterson led Cherokee is assists with five and recorded two steals, while Bruhn and Miller, battling the tall Wolfpack inside all night long, led their team in rebounds with four each. Dilla registered two assists, and Bruhn had two steals.
"The girls played very hard and hustled the entire game," said first-year Cherokee varsity coah Abby James. "Although we took good shots all night, we struggled with getting them to fall.
"Misty Bruhn was a strong defensive leader on the court all night, and led the team offensively with 11 points."
