Monday, December 8, 2008

Two students at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City were wounded on Nov. 30th in what police are calling an accidental shooting. The shooting occurred at 10:27 p.m. at the Sunridge Court apartment complex at 4701 Stone Avenue in Sioux City.

Sioux City police said Monday that 21-year-old Brian Skou of Sioux City was handling a 9 mm handgun when it accidentally discharged, striking him in the hand. The bullet continued through Skou's hand and struck his roommate, 21-year-old Matthew Kunze of Sioux City, in the shoulder.

Both men were transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Skou is a graduate of Aurelia High School who served in the Army National Guard in the Middle East, and is nearing completion of a degree in Police Science at Western Iowa Tech.
