LAWTON - The pesky Galva-Holstein boys pocketed a hard-fought 43-38 victory over Lawon-Bronson in Western Valley Conference North basketball action here on Dec. 4.
Taylor Nees scored 16 points and teammate Mark Cronin added 12 to lead G-H in the hotly contested defensive match-up that had the Pirates breaking from a 34-33 deficit after three quarters to go on a 10-4 scoring run in the fourth to claim the win.
Nees also grabbed 10 rebounds for a nifty double-double night, and Cronin snagged eight for his well-rounded game this night. They also had four steals apiece and Nees added three assists. Pirates Kellen Jacobson totaled six rebounds, Isaiah Miller five, and Jordan Else four. Else also had five assists and three steals.
Mike Beavers paced the L-B Eagles with 13 points, and Mike Tolkamp tallied 10.
The Pirates of coach Bob Lee sank 17-46 field goals for 37 percent, and cashed in 9-16 free throws. L-B was 1-7 from the free throw line.
"We struggled shooting the ball tonight, but luckily our defense stepped up in the fourth quarter to get us the win," said coach Lee. "Lawton-Bronson played real hard and we feel fortunate to walk out with a victory.
"We got some real important minutes from our bench (Cole Egger, Pat McAreavy, and John Harris) tonight."
