Crowley Spindler, age 85, of Carroll, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Dec. 10th at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant was Father Timothy Schott. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee. Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll was in charge of arrangements.

Crowley was born on Dec. 14, 1922, at Galva, the son of Louis and Alice (Murray) Spindler. He graduated from Galva High School in 1940 and then attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. On March 18, 1944, he was married to Marilyn Shea at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. Crowley entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in March 1944, and served as a Pilot and Pilot Trainer, based in Texas and California. He was honorably discharged in September 1945 at the rank of Second Lieutenant. Following military service, he farmed in the Galva area.

In 1971, the family moved to Carroll and Crowley began his career as a District Auditor for the State of Iowa Department of Revenue. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and Carroll American Legion, and enjoyed playing golf and cards, and his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marge Mohr.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Spindler of Carroll; five children, Ed and Sherri of Greeley, Colo., Jim of Minneapolis, Minn., Bill and Sue of Cherokee, Tom and Pam of Cresco, and Kathleen and Duane of Omaha, Neb.; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
