MAPLETON - The Galva-Holstein Pirate boys basketball squad posted a 62-51 Western Valley Conference win over the Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto Rams here on Dec. 19th, giving coach Bob Lee's Pirates an impressive 7-0 overall mark heading into the Christmas break.

The Pirates, who moved to 3-0 in WVC play with the win, were led once again by Taylor Nees, who scored 22 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked four shots, and had three steals and two assists.

Jordan Else scored 11 points and dished out six assists for the Pirates, and Mark Cronin scored seven points and stole seven Ram passes.

Derek Brown led MVAO scoring with 11 points, and Drew Conover added 10 for the Rams.

Coach Lee said "We played a little sloppy in the first half, but our seniors got us back on track in the second half. Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto kept fighting until the end, and we feel real good about getting out of there with a win."

"This was a great win to take us into the Christmas break," said Lee. "Now we can get a little rest and start preparing for the rest of the season."

The G-H teams host River Valley Jan. 6 after returning from the holiday break.
