I don't know about you, but it seems like it took me a long time to get over saying "Nineteen ninety - whatever." But, you know what - this week we begin our 10th year of the new decade/new millennium (or 9th, depending upon your point of view), so I guess it's time for me to admit it. Thursday, January 1 brought in the year 2009 .
You can call it "two thousand nine," or twenty-oh-nine" if that's your preference, but the bottom line is this : it is now the Twenty-First Century. There - I admit it . I am on the bandwagon. Better late than never, I say.
However - this does NOT mean that I am going to write much in this space about 21st Century things. I mean, too much change at one time can be a little overwhelming, don't you think?
My special subject areas are movies, music, television and sports, and, let's face it, there hasn't been anything worthwhile happen in any of those areas in recent years. But I'll let you know when there is. I'll be right on top of it. Maybe I'll even get political in my columns this year. I heard a rumor that we recently elected an African-American president, but, I'll believe that when I see it.
Now if we can just get the Twentieth Century Fox movie studio to join the rest of us in this new century, we'll be ready to head into the "twenty-tens."
