CORRECTIONVILLE - Galva-Holstein and River Valley played a pair of Western Valley-North Conference basketball games here on Jan. 6th, and each school went home with a victory.

In the opener, the visiting Wolverines topped the Lady Pirates in a low-scoring affair, 33-28. Amber Bauer led RV scoring with nine points, while Breanna Mathes led the Lady Pirates with 11 points.

Galva-Holstein led at all the quarter breaks, but the Wolverines outscored Coach Ken Slater's girls 15-8 in the final period to win the game.

In the boys' contest between two good teams, Pirate Coach Bob Lee's undefeated and 9th-ranked Galva-Holstein team rolled to their 8th win of the season, as they got off to fast start, played through some foul trouble, and beat a good defensive team by a final score of 64-42.

Taylor Nees had another big game for the Pirates, collecting 22 points, 16 rebounds, three steals, five assists, and one blocked shot on the night. Mark Cronin, with 13 points and three rebounds, and Isaiah Miller, with 11 points, six rebounds and two assists, also played essential roles for the undefeated Pirates, as did John Harris, Cole Egger and Patrick McAreavy, who all came off the bench to play some real important minutes and help the team when it needed help due to foul trouble. Jordan Else also scored eight points for the Pirates and Kellen Jacobson dished out five assists on the night.

Austin Hansen led River Valley's scoring with 20 points, with Zach Hullinger adding seven, and Anthony Volkert six. Volkert and Ethan Todd led RV on the boards with seven rebounds each, and Hansen snagged six, and Hullinger five.
