PAULLINA - The South O'Brien girls basketball team "played with much better intensity," according to their coach Julie Paulsen, in defeating Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 54-45 here on Jan. 8.
The Wolverines held one point leads at both the first quarter and halftime breaks, before outscoring the Hawks 11-1 in the third quarter and hanging on for a 54-45 victory over their former Sioux Valley Conference rival.
Chelsie Rohrs led the Wolverines' scoring with 18 points, followed closely by Megan McCauley, who had 16. Rohrs also led the team with seven rebounds and seven assists, while McCauley had three steals and blocked two shots. The Wolverines shot 63% from the field and 89% from the free throw line.
