Doris Haidsiak
Doris Haidsiak, age 88, of Schaller, died on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services were on Jan. 13 at First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. Burial was in Schaller Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller was in charge of the arrangements.

Doris Bernice Drake was the second of five children, born May 9, 1920, to Frank and Lois (Baird) Drake in Siebert, Colorado. She lived most of her young life in South Central Nebraska. She graduated from Superior High School in Superior, Neb., in 1937 and taught in the rural schools of Nuckolls County, Neb.

On June 7, 1941, Doris was united in marriage to Lester "Pid" Haidsiak in Wichita, Kan. The couple was blessed with four daughters: LaVonda, Dottie, Jackie, and Kathy. Following a series of dry weather years and crop failures they moved to the Schaller area in the spring of 1945. They lived on and farmed the Clella Denman farm south of Schaller for three years. In 1948 they moved to the Fred Claussen farm. In 1950 they moved to the George and Elsie Seek home place east of Schaller. Here they resided and farmed for 24 years until Lester's death in June 1974.

Doris took pleasure in her role as a housewife and mother. She was also an active member of the Ladies Aide (United Women) of the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. Doris enjoyed reading, crocheting and playing cards with family and friends, and was an avid gardener. Above all, Doris loved visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, a grandson, Daniel Herron; three brothers and one sister.

Those left to cherish her memory include her four daughters: Lavonda Herron and her husband Steven of Storm Lake, Dottie Baker and her husband Hank of Sioux City, Jackie Goodin and her husband Michael of Schleswig, and Kathy Siebrecht and her husband David of Schaller; grandchildren: Marc (Becky) Herron, Jason (fiancée, Carolyn Wilson) Siebrecht, Jamie (Tracy) Siebrecht, Andrew (Andrea) Baker, and Angie (Chad) Allen; great-grandchildren: Bailey Siebrecht, Madison Tresler, McKenna and Sydney Wilson, Cooper, Cobe and Cade Siebrecht, Morgan and Michael Allen, Riley and Kayla Herron, and Annalysa Baker; a sister-in-law, Ruth Borcherding; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
