AURELIA - The Aurelia Bulldog basketball squads played host to the Sioux Central Rebels here on Jan. 16th in Northwest Conference action, and were gracious hosts. In the girls opener, the Rebels scored a 61-24 victory - similar to the results of a Dec. 10 contest between the teams, which ended with a 58-24 Rebel win.
Grace Rehnstrom, with 21 points, and Brooke Scharn, with 18, led the way for Sioux Central.
Meghan Glawe led the Bulldog scoring with 10 points and added five rebounds and three blocked shots; Erin Laursen led Bulldog rebounders with seven; and Audrey Winterhof led in assists and steals, with three of each.
In the boys' game, the Bulldogs, said Coach Grant Peckenschneider, "got off to a real slow start again," trailing 12-4 after the first quarter.
Coach Peckenschneider said he was happy with the 25-15 score at half, feeling the Bulldogs played much better defense in that second period. The 'Dogs scored four quick
ones to start the second half and cut the deficit to six, but then "we had a little
trouble with the press, just did not shoot real well, and Sioux Central pulled away. They are a solid club and did a nice job."
Sioux Central went on to claim a 66-46 verdict.
Jordan Glawe led Aurelia's scoring with 14 points, while Nick Hirschman added 11 points and Cam Meyer nine.
Meyer also led the team in rebounding with 10, while Hirschman had five. Aaron Bruce had four assists and Meyer and Hischman each had three steals. The Bulldogs committed 21 turnovers, and shot 33% from the field, including 0 for 9 on three-point attempts.
The Aurelia girls are winless this season, and the boys have registered just a single win.
